FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BERKELEY CAMPUS MINISTRY URGES NO VOTE ON PROP 8

As a Unitarian Universalist raised in a faith tradition,
As a college undergraduate who supports equality,
As a Unitarian Universalist attending seminary,
As a religious leader,

My faith teaches that those that work towards limiting the expression of love work against the greatest commandment from the ministry of Jesus, the poetry of Rumi and the great religious traditions of the world; that we do not deny to others the love we seek in our own lives.

I believe that denying the civil right to marriage creates a tiered society, turning thousands into second-class citizens.

I believe all couples should have the right to have their marriage recognized by friends, family, and the community, as well as the state.

I believe everyone has the right to have their dream of finding someone fulfilled if only by allowing them the right to hope.

I believe no state has the power to institutionalize prejudice; separate is never equal.

That is why the Unitarian Universalist Campus Ministry at UC Berkeley urges everyone who believes that our country is a land of equal opportunity to vote no on Prop 8.

Vote No on Prop 8
